Role of the Lymph Pump and Its Control

NG McHale

Lymphatic vessels constitute a network of series and parallel pumps, the flow of which is modulated by autoregulation and by hormones and nerves. The latter extrinsic regulators can alter the sensitivity of autoregulation such that interstitial volume may be controlled at levels higher or lower than normal.
