Is the Epididymis a Kidney Analogue?

BT Hinton and TT Turner

The epithelia of the epididymis and kidney have physiological and structural similarities that may relate to their similar embryological origin. Both epithelia control their intraluminal microenvironment via secretory and absorptive processes. Considering the epididymis in the light of what is known about renal physiology may help us grain fresh insight into its functions.
