Gating Properties and Modulation of Na Channels

B Nilius

Na channels mediate a fast transfer of information in electrically excitable cells. The transition between open-closed transformations of the channel protein (gating) can be described by voltage-dependent transitions between at least four conformational states. Specialized regions within the channel molecule are involved in gating and pharmacological modulation.
