Network Mechanisms in the Vertebrate Retina

K-I Naka and HM Sakai

The retina neuron network has evolved specialized, collective functions involving many interconnected neurons. Thus the manner in which retinal neurons organize visual information can only be understood in the context of their group dynamics. Brief descriptions of four typical examples of these network mechanisms are included.
