The Cardiac Renin-Angiotensin System: A Synopsis of Current Experimental and Clinical Data

The elements of a cardiac renin-angiotensin system have been characterized and their functional interaction demonstrated. Locally synthesized angiotensin may exert profound direct and indirect effects on cardiac function and metabolism. These effects may be involved in pathophysiological states in which pharmacological modulation of the system appears to be beneficial.
