Body Weight Regulation in Humans: The Importance of Nutrient Balance

Body weight regulation depends on the balances of the three macronutrients. Whereas food intake stimulates the oxidation rate of carbohydrate and protein, it inhibits that of fat. Carbohydrate and protein balances are usually achieved within 24 h, whereas fat balance may vary markedly according to fat intake and energy needs.
