ATP-Induced K+ Current Oscillation in Megakaryocytes: A Unique Purinoceptor

N Akaike and H Uneyama

Megakaryocytes respond to externally applied ATP and ADP, showing a periodic K+ current that reflects oscillation in cytoplasmic calcium concentration ([Ca2+] i). The agonist selectivity of the purinoceptor on the megakaryocyte is unique. In addition, the intracellular mechanism of [Ca2+]i oscillation was investigated, and a model is proposed.
