Rapid Adaptation of Intestinal Sugar Transport

ES Debnam

Upregulation, within minutes, of intestinal sugar transport following changes in luminal and blood levels of glucose suggests that this phenomenon has an important homeostatic role. Rapid adaptation can involve both brush-border and basolateral membranes. Recent work suggests a complex interaction between local systemic factors in the acute enterocyte response.
