Extracellular Matrix: The Cellular Environment

T Scott-Burden

The extracellular matrix consists of a mixture of macromolecules that is specific for any given tissue and makes up a distinct environment for the different cells of the body. The study of these macromolecules and their assembly into complex extracellular matrix structures has focused attention on their physiological importance.
