Are All Cell Volume Changes the Same?

Little is known about how cells sense volume and convert size signals into regulatory responses. Recent evidence suggests cells can detect more than just swelling or shrinkage. Cells may possess multiple volume detectors and volume regulatory effector pathways that respond specifically to the mechanism and magnitude of volume change.
