About the Cover
On the cover: The transduction of signals from the
extracellular environment to the cytosol and nucleus
is essential for virtually all cellular functions.
Signaling occurs in distinct subcellular compartments
and involves both cytosolic and membrane
proteins. Recent work has shown that proteins
assemble in macromolecular complexes to organize
a dizzying array of signaling events, which in turn act
in concert to coordinate specific physiological
responses. See Lyle and Griendling, p. 269.
