About the Cover
On the cover: The three structures of full-size ABC transporters (top) from left;
the drug exporter Sav1866 (also shown from a different view on the far right),
the vitamin B12 importer BtuCD, and the metal chelate importer HI1470/1.
The bottom panel shows, in the same order, surface representations of their
nucleotide-binding domains (NBDs), illustrating the contacts made by their
respective transmembrane domains (TMDs). The data suggests that the TMDs
of different classes of ABC transporter have evolved different mechanisms to
respond to the conformational changes at the NBDs, and so to effect transport
of their respective ligands. See Linton, p. 122.
