On the cover: Shown are three ion channels (left to
right: nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, voltage-gated
potassium channel, and ionotropic glutamate receptor)
after being nanoengineered with photoswitchable tethered
ligands, synthetic �antennae� that are attached to
the protein and allow controlling with light the passage
of ions through the ion channel pore. See Gorostiza
